What is person Centred Therapy
Person‑centred therapy is a humanistic approach developed by Carl Rogers that focuses on the individual rather than the problem. It is based on the belief that people have an innate ability to understand themselves and make positive changes when they are in the right environment. The therapist provides empathy, genuine understanding, and unconditional positive regard, creating a safe and supportive space. Sessions are led by the client, without judgement or advice, allowing them to explore their feelings at their own pace. Through feeling heard and accepted, clients gain self‑awareness, confidence, and the ability to move toward personal growth and fulfilment.
Who am i?
I am training at the Metanoia Institute on the BACP‑accredited BSc (Hons) Humanistic Counselling degree. My work is grounded in the person‑centred approach, offering empathy, congruence, and unconditional positive regard. Alongside this, I integrate Transactional Analysis (TA) to support client autonomy by exploring ego states, relational patterns, and life scripts in a collaborative and transparent way. TA aligns strongly with BACP values of trustworthiness, respect, and empowerment, helping clients develop awareness, choice, and responsibility. I also draw on Gestalt therapy to enhance present‑moment awareness and embodied experience, working ethically, relationally, and holistically with each client.
